People learnt how to cook basic food in these classes and then learnt how to do the washing up.

In the very first of my Home Economics classes, we had to make Fairy Cakes(that's a cupcake for any friends over the pond. We had a very easy recipe to follow with instructions on how to create our mouthwatering mini masterpieces. It was all very straightforward to me. Having made cakes with my mum, this was going to be as easy as pie...um...well, cake really.
We all got to our stations, made our cakes, and then put them in our ovens to bake. We then waited with bated breath, and hoped for the best.
Once out of the oven, we picked our best 3 cakes and placed them on a plate to present to the teacher.

To say mine were the best in the class would perhaps seem immodest, but what the HELL! you know what? they really were. the teacher thought them great, and one of the best compliments I got was from annother pupil who said I must have nipped to the shop and bought some while everyone else was too busy peering eagerly into their ovens.

From that moment on I loved baking even more than before. Although not academic like my brother, I have always loved more creative persuits. Now I get to "create" yummy sweet treats for more than just my one or two family members, and seeing people enjoy them makes me very happy indeed.

The End.
